About the Unit
The Role of Court Services Deputies
Court Services Deputies (Bailiffs) provide courtroom security, maintain order, and protect judges, jurors, witnesses, attorneys, court staff, and the public. Their responsibilities include:
- Providing courtroom security
- Maintaining order in court
- Protecting judges, jurors, and witnesses
- Supervising inmates during court appearances
- Transporting remanded individuals
- Responding to emergencies
- Serving as liaisons between the court and the public
Court Security
Assignments Across Every Court Division
Bailiffs are assigned to criminal, civil, family, juvenile, and other proceedings based on operational and security needs to ensure safe and orderly court operations.
Courthouse Entry
Security Screening for All Visitors
All persons and belongings entering the courthouse are subject to security screening. Those declining screening may not enter unless authorized by law.
Prohibited Items
What You Cannot Bring Into the Courthouse
The following items are prohibited inside all Imperial County courthouses:
- Weapons and firearms
- Knives
- Pepper spray
- Recording devices
- Cameras
- Meta Smart Glasses
- Tools
- Glass containers
- Aerosol cans
- Laser pointers
- Excessive baggage
- Any other items deemed a security concern
Service animals are permitted in accordance with the law.
Electronic Devices
Cell Phones & Recording Rules
Electronic devices must be silenced at all times inside the courthouse. Photography, audio recording, and video recording are prohibited without express court authorization.
Courtroom Etiquette
What to Expect Inside the Courtroom
To help maintain the dignity and order of court proceedings, visitors should:
- Dress appropriately
- Remain quiet during proceedings
- Follow directions from deputies and court staff
- Refrain from eating or drinking in courtrooms
- Avoid communicating with inmates
- Supervise children at all times
